No Show This Week
- Joanna

Welcome to Random Fandom, a podcast hosted by Joanna, a twenty-something South Texan. Listen in every Friday as I share my thoughts and opinions about my favorite fandoms, including music, pop culture, books, sports, movies, and much more.
The Coolest Superhero
In honor of the opening of "The Dark Night," I
play a song called "I'm Batman," by The Marble Tea.
All About Fandom History
Thanks to Laura from the Fan History Wiki for alerting
me about the site! Check it out if you're curious about fandom and/or would like to document your own fandom.
Goodbye to a Great Show
I'm saddened to report that one of my favorite NPR shows, "The Bryant Park Project," has been cancelled. I've posted more about the cancellation on eclectica, my personal blog.
Hurray for Video Blogs!
I'm much happier to report that Josh Groban has
started a video blog.
Just in case you missed Josh's performance at the 2008 MLB All-Star Game, it's available for viewing at YouTube.
Song of the Week
"Only Laughing," by Andy Scisco is my selection for
this week. You can hear the song at Andy's official site
or his Facebook
page.

Word Nerd Alert
I talk about some of the new words recently added to Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, focusing especially on "mondegreen." After sharing a mondegreen of my own, I mention that there is at least one site full of humorous examples of mondegreens.
Concert Time!
I'm happy to say I'll be attending a Sheryl Crow/James Blunt concert next month in Houston.
Paolo "Kidnapped" by The View
I have a giggle over a news article that says The View kidnapped Paolo Nutini and forced him to sing on a track for their upcoming album. The song will, hopefully, tide me over until Paolo's new album is released.
"Garrison Keillor's Evil Twin"
Although I've not yet read David Sedaris' new book, "When You Are Engulfed in Flames," I recommend checking it out since I've enjoyed his past works. Click here for an interview with David and an excerpt from the book.
Song of the Week
Ben Sollee's cover of Sam Cook's "A Change is Gonna Come" inspired me to revive the Song of the Moment/Week segment.
At the All-Star Game
Heads up Josh Groban fans: He'll be performing during the 7th inning stretch at the MLB All-Star Game on July 15. Check your local TV listings for time and channel.

A New Album From Amos Lee
My mom, Laurie, joins me once again to discuss one of our favorite subjects, music. We talk about Amos Lee's new album, "Last Days at the Lodge" and mention various performances and interviews he's given recently, including:
Happy Birthday, Mr. Mandela!
We also mention Josh Groban's performance of "Weeping" and "Machine" at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday concert.
It's All Goo!
We're excited about "Real," the new single from the Goo Goo Dolls, which can be heard at their MySpace page and downloaded from iTunes.
Soldier to Songwriter
I mention "From the Balkans to the Band," an essay written by James Blunt for "Newsweek," in which he writes about his experiences as a NATO peacekeeper in Kosovo.
Purdy Good
We also discuss a fantastic interview from "Antiquiet," Joe Purdy: No Record Contract, No Problem. To listen to all of Joe Purdy's music for free, visit his official Web site.
Paolo Nutini on Tour & in the Studio
We briefly mention Paolo Nutini's appearance at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the fact that he's curtailed his touring schedule to focus on recording his sophomore album.
As Usual...
Just for good measure, we also throw in a couple random rants and rambles.
Here's to Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness!
This show was recorded earlier this week, but since today is Independence Day, here's a bonus video: Josh Groban's performance of the "Star-Spangled Banner" at the 2005 World Series.
